A Note from our Founder:
Can you believe the school year is already here?
We can’t either. With that comes an influx of responsibilities and needs in our personal and professional lives. For Big Sister Little Sister Mentoring Program, that means that we turn our focus towards supporting our members in their back to school transitions and re-establishment of each of our chapters. This includes welcoming their new e-boards, supporting them through seminars and lessons as they get back into the swing of classes, and gearing up to introduce ourselves to the freshmen on campus as they learn about joining BSLS.
In addition, this time of year means that we are starting to plan for next year, with a big emphasis on budget and future planning. Key among this is planning for capacity building and operational advancement. These are two huge sources for our organization continue to deliver excellence and practical resources for our members and communities we serve in our operational footprint.
Our Goal is to Continue Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Today!
Together, YOU and I can increase the number of youth, communities, and women who have the opportunity to transform their untapped potential into skills and talents that break barriers and drive lasting change. Your support nurtures the next generation of leaders, equipping them to face the challenges of tomorrow.
Our members don’t stop needing our help, no matter the time of year, and we are dedicated to answering that call.
With all of this in mind, consider how you can help support all organizations that are important to you, including our own. We hope you tap into your resources and network to share them with us as we continue to boldly take on the challenging problems we solve for our youth and communities. We hope you keep this in mind as the year rolls on.
What’s Coming Up for BSLS?
August marked our last batch of sessions in our signature Hear Our Voices seminars. They covered topics such as forming ideal habits, the value of sisterhood and how to foster it, and speaking up for yourself.
We deeply thank our second round of speakers for sharing their time and knowledge with our members.
We have a number of event coming up over the next few weeks including:
Our Sweet 16 in Orlando, Florida in November (tickets available here) in which we will all gather to celebrate our accomplishments and look to the future of the organization
One of our signature programs, WOMENAlign| Lock + Key
Sister to Sister (S2S) Academy, another of our signatures

Chapter and Member of The Month:
This month we are highlighting the members of North Carolina Central University. They celebrate and encourage success and achievement in all of their members through internships and community service. This is modeled exceptionally by their President, Angel (featured below) who interned this summer at Apple. In addition, their Vice President, Mykenzi Davis-Cowart, models it within her community as she just joined Alpha Kappa Alpha and was elected Miss Sophomore for 2024-2025 academic year! |  |
This summer I had the incredible honor of interning for Apple's Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives team in Cupertino, CA. I supported Apple's environmental work and Racial Equity Justice Initiative (REJI) work, and Apple internal events. This experience helped me develop many transferable skills such as communication, research, and memo development. This experience overall exposed me to the tech sector, all the potential career opportunities even within my field (political science) and gained a valuable network of individuals.

What began as a single chapter has now expanded to 19 chapters across the United States, positively impacting thousands of youth, communities, and women.
